It may be a sad fact but Lifestyle directors have been involved in the manufacture and sales of Pool Tables and Juke Boxes all their working lives. The company Directors between them have over 50 years experience in the Pool and Music business.
Back in 1969 one of the directors sold only original American Pool tables imported from the USA such as U.S.Billiards, Futurion, Brunswick and Ebonite and Juke Boxes from the world renowned Rowe-Ami company of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Then in 1973 a company called Hazel Grove Music based in Stockport Cheshire who also operated coin pool tables and Juke Boxes developed a pool table that had smaller pockets and cabinet dimensions than the American game and called it the “Superleague” table which is now legendary and changed the face of the pool game in the UK.
Suddenly there was a table that was smaller than the American tables but the perfect size to fit in to the pubs, clubs and homes in the UK and with its napped wool cloth and the same ball to pocket ratio as snooker we had a table that fitted all locations and provided a skill level to suit the better player and a great fun game for the novice. In the very early days the late Alex Higgins endorsed the table and appeared at exhibitions demonstrating the finer points of the “Superleague” table.
One of our directors joined Hazel Grove in 1978 as Sales Manager, then Sales Director and ultimately Managing Director during which time the Superleague brand dominated the UK market. In the 90’s the company was sold to the Hainsworth Group who merged the company with their Riley Snooker company.
By this time more than 120,000 Superleague tables had been made and many are still out there performing and providing endless enjoyment in pubs and clubs throughout the UK and Europe. We travelled the world introducing the Superleague tables to countries such as South Africa, Hungary, Germany and even the USA- “coals to Newcastle “whilst at the same time opening a manufacturing plant in Spain to meet demand and a distribution company in France.Leaving Hazel Grove in 1998 and starting a new manufacturing company called Excel Leisure our owners manufactured over 12,000 more tables before selling the company to form Lifestyle Leisure Products as a pure distribution company.
Our owners have travelled worldwide in search of the finest pool products in countries such as China, Germany and of course to Belgium to the ball factory of Aramith and the world famous Simonis billiard cloth factory. Lifestyle is proud to represent Aramith and Simonis products in the UK and of course the exclusive supply of Garlando Coin football tables.
So far that’s 50+ years of unrivalled experience in the sale and manufacture of Pool tables, so we feel qualified to offer you the best advice before making what is a difficult decision- why slate bed, which cloth, 6ft or 7ft, which game UK or American?
